WET FLOOR SIGNS
Wet floor signs are used to help make others aware of a potential hazard, so people know to proceed with caution. Below is a comprehensive list of reasons why we at Scandinavian Building Services use wet floor signs each day.
- To warn visitors and employees about wet or slippery floors.
- When placing a wet floor sign, it needs to be visible from all directions. Using multiple signs may be necessary to warn people when approaching the hazard from different directions.
- Wet floor signs need to be placed at building entrances during times of inclement weather, so visitors are immediately informed of the probability of hazard in the area
- Always place a wet floor sign in area where there is/was a spill or wet from recent mopping.
- Wet floor signs are always to be placed in restrooms; the floor can become wet at any time in restrooms.
- Inspect wet floor signs for placement, cleanliness, and physical damage – replace or clean if required. Let your manager know if new Wet Floor signs are needed or if you do not have enough at your location.
- Wet Floor signs are placed in areas known to become wet and hazardous often.
- Wet floor signs are to be used before cleaning a spill and left until the floor surface is dry and no longer a hazard.
EXAMPLE: WET FLOOR USE
The client askes you to clean up a spill:
Bring a wet floor sign with you to the area you are being called to. Do not assume someone else has already placed a Wet Floor Sign. Always be prepared.
Place the wet floor sign in a visible location near the spill if one has not been placed there already.
Assess the type of spill that is on the floor example: water, detergent, or oil and clean the spill accordingly.
Ensure there are enough wet floor signs in the area to warn customers or employees who may approach the area from different directions.
Dry mop the floor until dry or leave wet floor signs until area is dry and clear of hazards.
